RECRUITING

DGC Law is unique. Although we are not a big firm, we handle complex, high-dollar matters for sophisticated clients. Because of the nature of our practice, DGC Law hires attorneys who possess a high aptitude for legal work, the confidence to assume significant responsibility, and the desire to be exceptional lawyers. At the same time, DGC Law’s firm culture also emphasizes quality of life and work balance. Our firm model, compensation philosophy, and size are all aimed at reducing the negative impact of politics that many firms have experienced. We strive to manage the firm by shareholder consensus and merit, and we still hire associates with the real expectation that they will become shareholders in the firm.

DGC Law hires lateral attorneys at all levels. We also participate annually in the law school recruiting process and interview at a number of law schools.

Associate Training and Benefits

Much is expected of our associates, but the opportunities for learning and advancement are legion. From day one, our associates are key members of our legal teams and play an important role in the matters we handle for our clients. They contribute to strategy and decision-making and have meaningful client contact. Trial associates at DGC Law are active in case development and resolution, including handling experts, engaging in settlement negotiations, arguing motions, and examining witnesses at trial when appropriate.

Our junior lawyers learn by doing, but they are also actively mentored and trained by our senior lawyers on a daily basis. DGC Law also encourages associates to attend a variety of seminars, as well as NITA trial training, and to participate in local and national bar activities.

DGC Law’s associate compensation package is very competitive and includes annual bonuses based on merit and productivity. DGC Law pays for all CLE costs, bar dues, and occupation taxes. Our benefits package also includes 401k plans with dollar-to-dollar matching to the statutory maximum, as well as profit sharing, and comprehensive health insurance with no additional charge for spouse and children, disability insurance, and paid maternity leave.

Clerkship Program

DGC Law recruits both first and second year law students. Our summer clerkship programs, which are developed for the purpose of identifying candidates for permanent employment, are challenging and rewarding. Throughout the program, we make every effort to get to know our summer associates on a personal basis and to introduce them to the many benefits of living in the Midland area. Weekly social events range from small dinners to larger special events—all designed as opportunities for clerks and firm members to spend time together and build relationships.

We generally conduct on-campus interviews of 2L students at the University of Texas, Texas Tech University, and Baylor University. The firm also has traditionally interviewed and offered clerkships to exceptional 1L students. If you attend a law school where we do not interview and would like to be considered for our clerkship program, please send your resume, transcript, and a writing sample to us.
